When people take heroin, they would steal to feed their addiction, and do other crimes. So, if the population in Iran takes heroin the most, then why is the country’s crime rate is low, I would of thought it would be high?

Because more than 80% of Opium of the world is produced in Afghanistan, which has a border of more than 1000 km with Iran (very difficult for the police to control every point of that border). The only way they can send their heroin to the western world is through Iran. Since Iranian Police is very devoted to anti-drug fight (quite contrary to what some other answerers said), the Afghan drug dealers are not very successful in transiting their drugs through Iran, but at least they can enter them to Iran.
Therefore, the Afghan dealers are now concentrating on the Iranain customers. Considering the great number of Afghan immigrants and assylum in Iran (about 3 millions of them), any of them can be considered as a potential dealer. So…?
Let’s summerise the facts and guess the rest!
1) 80% of heroing production enters through a 1000 km border. How can you prevent all that?
2) Very few of it can get out of the country, where does the rest of it go?
3) The number of the potential dealers is very high! Whom you can be suspicious to?
Iran produces a large proportion of the world’s opium poppies (the things that make heroin). Heroin is expensive here because of scarcity and illegality. In Iran, it’s easy to get, therefore it’s less expensive and people can just buy it, instead of stealing to buy it.
(Just like oil prices in Iraq..)
Because there they don’t have a ridiculous “war on drugs” pushing the stuff into demand. People have easy access over there so there is no need to steal it. Makes sense.
Americas war on drugs is a joke btw, does nothing but push other crime rates higher.
only have to do that in america- where prices for it are so high.
Over there, it’s actually cheaper than water…
(meaning, why kill for it? it would be like a robbery in america for a few pennies…even criminals have better things to do)
might have something to do with the public hangings,stoning,firing squads and beheadings that iran does on a regular basis as punishment for crimes…
only reported crimes are ataken into account, there is so much un-reported crime that goes unoticed to the authorities! thats why it appears to be low
Crime is low in Iran because all of the crooks are too wasted to commit any misdeeds.
