What Sort Of Disorder Would These Symptoms Be Related To?

Filed in Category Symptoms of Pill Use

My female friend is having lots of issues, and is trying to get to a therapist….but I am curious as to what this may be. My sister has Borderline but this seems different…SHe is 17 and from what I know, no abuse or trauma in childhood
1. Quick Cycling Bipolar-like moods alternating between mania and depression in days (Seems to be depressed more though)
2. In mania has “Uncontrollable dream-like images rushing through mind” of complete nonsense
3. In depression, feels “no emotion” and has an urge to make a “smoothie with every pill in the house”
4. This rarely happens , but feels like she is in a “trance” or”alternate world” where nothing is as it seems. Another “force” is controlling her movements. Has out of body experience. Seems to then “black out” and forget most of this. Also rarely hears stuff that isn’t there…but at the time it is persistent…like repetitive noises..like knocking, shattering. Also randomly will hear a voice in her head that says really weird things like “Put a shaving cream bottle in the microwave!”, or “Cut that spider in half with scissors!”
5. I have noticed this when hanging out with her…paranoia. For example, a guy will be walking towards us or looking at her, and she’ll think/say “He’s going to kill me! See him?! I’m scared! He wants to kill me!” or “I bet that guy is going to rob us and shoot us! He is after us!!”
6. A bit socially awkward and is sort of against society in a way…
She is very quiet and shy. I am glad she has enough trust in me to share this with me, but now I am very concerned and unsure what to do. I am encouraging her to get help.
I am looking for some reasons these symptoms could be happening though. Schizophrenia doesn’t seem right. She isn’t like this 24/7. Just ever so often throughout the days. The moods seem to cycle a lot though and I see them the most out of the symptoms.
Thanks.

Could be schizophrenia, psychotic depression or bipolar disorder (which also can include hallucinations and delusion). Most likely, it’s bipolar disorder.

she needs to be evaulated by a mental health professional that she feels comfortable with.
    these are symptoms of:
    -schizoaffective disorder
    -bipolar I
if she is diagnosed with this she must take medication, that is why it is important to get her to a doctor.

its either she watches too much t.v., or she gets too exaggerated or maybe something happened to her before if not her, maybe a friend or someone very close to her..it would be great she have you whom she can talk to..just listen to her..and be a friend..its great help..am not sure what kind that is, but hope things turns out well

I can understand you wanting to help, I had a similar instance in my family.
But, we’re not doctors, and shouldn’t really be doing this because we may do more harm than good. Try and get her to seek therapy, and speak to someone who can better deal with it.

If it’s real, she should certainly seek professional help. However it seems unlikely. If she’s usually shy and withdrawn, could telling you these things just be a desperate cry for attention?

those are the positive symptoms for paranoid schizophrenia.
she definitely needs to see someone.

Without knowing a little more of her history and personality it is hard to dx. But from what you have written I would say it sounds like Dissociative Identity Disorder. I am including a link. If you need someone to talk or chat too about this further, email me through yahoo answers and I will be glad to help further. I do have experience with various disorders, including DID.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociativ…http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/disso…http://www.psychologytoday.com/condition…
