It really depends how you use it. If you use it simply to block out pain and try to use it as an escape, than I don’t see it helping. However, marijuana can make you think more clearly and see life in a different perspective, and if you use it to try to see your problems in a more positive light, than yes it can be very helpful. Basically, it will help if you see it as a tool, but not as a solution.
I think the underlying cause of the depression should be treated because cannabis is not for that purpose. Cannabis (Pot, Female Marijuana) has a high concentration of the (enzyme) cannabinoid. Maybe alpha or beta cannabinoid, but that is produced in the body for a purpose. Your body produces the same thing for a purpose. Its purpose is anti-inflammatory. It reduces the inflammation in the brain. That creates more space in the thoughts. The more space that is created in the thoughts, the less connected you will feel to the world, like you’ll fall off the edge of that thought.
It’s still more of a taboo. Studies are harder to do on the effects of marijuana for mental conditions. From what I know (smoker from ages 15-23) it helps depression. I have bipolar disorder, so i get depression and then some, lol. I stopped for a year now, and my mood swings are so much more frequent and severe. Most of my manic/depressive episodes before that correlate to times when I decided to stop for a while for whatever reason. The trick is sativas for depression, indicas for mania. So for you, look for strains that are like white widow (60% sativa, 40% indica) or stronger in the sativa family. Sour diesel would be great for you (90%sativa 10% indica) but horrible for me since i’m more manic then depressive. Most inconclusive studies on marijuana for treating bipolar disorder tend to say that it helps more depressive bipolar people. There’s not much research into the psychological field since the FDA has it classified as a shedule 1 drug, same as heroin and PCP with no medical benefit, which is obviously wrong. Plus how many pharmaceutical lobbyists are out there against the idea. No let’s get you on legal uppers, downers, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics and so many more. I react to all of them I tried. Worst example was Abilify where I seriously contemplated suicide. That’s right, let’s give someone with bipolar disorder (and is offered for depression by the way) a medication that might make them want to kill themselves. A lot of money in it though.
Marijuana doesn’t sound like a good way to treat depression to me at all.
Marijuana does cause euphoria, but that doesn’t get rid of the depression–it just temporarily makes you feel less sad. Many depressed people who use drugs develop serious addictions, because they find that the drug is the only way that they can experience pleasant feelings. It’s a bad road to head down.
Antidepressants are different–they work by causing long-term changes in brain chemistry. The changes caused by marijuana are short-term and therefore not useful in treating depression.
Clinical depression is not “sadness.” It’s an imbalance in brain chemistry, and the way to cure it is by fixing that imbalance, not by causing temporary euphoria via drugs with potentially harmful side effects.
Mj might dull the pain, but it’s won’t cure the depression, because it does not address the causes.
tbh i think it makes depression worse in the long run or at least tries to block it out, and this is coming from personal experience.
u shouldn’t smoke weed if you are depressed allot of people just get more depressed so they smoke more weed , with depression u have to deal with the source of the depression.
