Signs of Marijuana Abuse | Signs of Cocaine Abuse | Signs of Heroin Abuse | Signs of Pill Abuse

I am concerned about a friend of mine who i have known since i was 12.
He has taken LSD well over 40 times in his life (and he is only 18). Just to note – he also smokes marijuana daily, and on occasion uses cocaine. When he decides to go on an LSD binge, which can last from 2 days to 4 days, he denies himself sleep, water, and food, which may contribute to his symptoms im about to list. But now he is telling me that randomly throughout his day he experiences LSD like affects even though he is not on the drug. A few examples he had given me were random hallucinations – specifically peoples heads throbbing, objects in a room moving or “growing”, flashes of light or color (usually bright pink or a “bright” white), and hearing moaning noises when no one else (me) was hearing anything. I am worried he has caused brain damage or that there is something seriously wrong with him, yet he refuses to see a doctor. Is it possible, because he has taken it so much, that small amounts of the substance remain in his body for a while after he takes the drug? I was also wondering if anyone could suggest how i would approach him about not using LSD anymore. I am afraid he will get offended (due to his personality), and honestly dont think he will listen or consider it. I have plenty of friends who use drugs (well, marijuana) but none of them are showing such serious signs of mental problems. If he has been on LSD for a few days (or even just a few hours) he seems to develop almost an alternate personality, which is slightly mean and offensive. After 3 days without sleep he literally looks and acts like a zombie and is completely strung out, he will forget to eat for hours on end (sometimes as long as 20-30 hours without food!). I do not want to wait for this to get worse but i dont think he will listen to me. I need a way to get through to him, or to at least have him cut back on his use.
Any useful information i could forward him would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend he slow down for sure – I’m of the opinion that everything should be taken in moderation. This is an informed opinion – about 10 years ago, I regularly dropped acid for a couple years, until one time, I dropped about 2 hits, and thinking the drug wasn’t very potent after waiting for too little of time, dropped another 8.
It wasn’t a terrible trip, but it did last about 36 hours… the biggest issue though, was that the after-affects lingered for years. Severe depression forced me onto anti-depressants that I believe I can fairly attribute to the ‘overdose’.
These lingering affects don’t happen for everyone – I’ve often read that regular takers don’t experience such issues… so you could hope that he’s one of those resilient people. However, given he’s already exhibiting behavioral changes, I’d strongly suggest he just slow down, smoke some grass or have a couple beers instead. Again – everything in moderation.
Go to ClubDrug,Lsd.com, you answeres are to be found there. No one that has never done LSD, will be able to explaine its effects to you.
Brain damage for starters.
The thing about drug users is that they will not quit until they are ready to quit. That usually happens when the get so low that they have nowhere else to go because they have lost everything. When you are describing his hallucination it doesn’t really sound like that is caused by LSD. LSD is not really a hallucinogenic drug. It is a dissociative drug. It does not cause hallucinations like you described. The closest thing it comes to hallucinations are “trails” where your vision gets distorted. He may have a psychotic disorder that is causing these hallucination. They say that 80% of heavy drug users have a serious mental illness and they are using drugs to self medicate. But back to the point, there isn’t much you can do. If he does not seek help on his own, your lecturing is likely going to piss him off and make him not want to talk to you anymore.
I heard a comparison to the effects of LSD on the brain is just like throwing a bucket of water on the circuit breakers to your house. You should probably speak to the people he cares about and get together to get him help. He’ll probably hate you all for it but it’ll help him in the long run.
I have heard that sometimes the effects of LSD can linger even after they have used the drug – the symptoms can become permanent.
If he truly values your friendship he will listen to what you have to say. He sounds like he is out of control. He does need to see a doctor, but it can be hard to make someone do that. If you get really concerned about his well being you could call an ambulance or the police who would be required to take him to the hospital. Try talking to him, but be prepared to hear him say he doesn’t have a problem. Maybe do some research on the drugs too so you can have something to back up what you tell him. Good luck!
