You could explore how freely doctors prescribe them. Then move onto how easily people become addicted and the roles the doctors play into it.

You have to pick a subtopic because as it is, it’s too big. Possible subtopics could be:
Focus on reasons why people abuse prescription drugs rather than street drugs (i.e. prescription drugs are cheaper; people sometimes become addicts without wanting to, but because they’re in constant pain, doctor hopping is easy, etc.)
Another angle could be to focus on whether some prescription drugs should even be classified as narcotics (i.e. oxycodone, lorazepam, etc)
Another possible angle could be to focus on the poverty issue. A prescription of 30 oxy costs $ 15 at the pharmacy. The street value for 1 pill is $ 40. … So why would a person who is sick and poor not sell the stuff when they’re desperate for money.
These are just some ideas. If you have time, talk to your local pharmacist about it. They can tell you more (i.e. about pharmacist exchange databases, etc.).
