Texas and Oklahoma will charge you for possession of a controlled substance -then it's about the weight. If there's enough, it becomes intent and that's a felony.
Meanwhile, they'll ask about influence and want you to take a drug test. Whether you take it, or not, is up to you. If they find THC, you've lost your license. If you refuse, you've lost your license. You could also lose your kids. If you're near a school, the jail time doubles.
A quarter will get you jail time. Paraphernalia will cause you to lose your license and go to jail. A DUI with pot will get a double sentence in Oklahoma.
I would say NM, OK, TX, AR and LA are the least tolerant because of Meth labs, theft, etc. I RUN when I see someone with pot.

The last I heard, it is a $5 fine in Michigan. In Texas they can throw you in jail. I've been caught five or six times and always let go (in IL & WI).

It's against Federal Law, that's why there's the problem. It should be a state's right issue but it's not. Even though in CA we have medical marijuana at any moment the Feds can come in and take it away because it's against federal law.

Califronia is pretty tolerant. So is Massachusetts.
I can't imagine that places like Utah or Oklahoma are too cool about the stuff.

California is obviously very tolerant. Local laws in Denver, Colorado a couple years ago enabled persons to possess a certain amount legally, though federal laws still don't support that. I suppose that would be up to the discretion of the police officer whether or not they decide to let them get away with it.
muppetkiller:
Run when you see someone with pot? Why exactly is that? You probably encounter a large amount of people who possess and smoke pot everyday. People who you'd never guess. Marijuana is not a scary drug nor do they necessarily need to be linked with crime or criminals. There are many people out there who are just as "normal" as can be but understand the greatness of marijuana.
