Ok , picture it this way, since you are a living being you must regularly in take food every few hours if not you stomach reacts by sending strong signals to your brain indicating that you are hungry as well as getting that empty feeling that you get in you gut.
Your stomach is always hungry, always ready to accept more food you just don't feel the hunger pains because your body is busy digesting the food you have eaten a few hours before hand.
Since your body has a survival mechanism built into your genes
if you do not eat for a long period of time your body will begin to eat away your stored fats then your muscle tissue , then your vital organs which will cause them to not function , then you die.

The reason why we get stomach pain after 2+ hrs is because our body is send a message to us saying that it needs more fuel to function. Your you need a certain amount of nutrients every however many hours so that it doesn't go in starvation mode. When you don't feed yourself for a few hours you internal messages get all whack up. Thats why sometimes your angry for no reason or your muscles ache. Its just a form of telling you that you need more fuel.
It has nothing to do with withdrawal. If you wanna now more about it you should go and try wikipedia or google.
