i have heard that going “cold turkey” is the best way to fight many addictions … ok it might be hell for a bit as the body “detoxifies” itself but the person will come out stronger at the other end of it plus some people have whats called an “addictive personality” so as they are using one thing to come off one problem they end up becoming addicted to the thing they were using to help them off the drug addiction they were fighting in the first place…ie i heard about an experiment some heroin addicts were put through…some took methodone others went cold turkey as it were, now it was pretty horrific i wont lie to u, but the ones that went cold turkey actually were cured of their addiction quicker and were healthier and didnt show tendancies towards relapses when they had detoxed. whereas the ones on methodone had more of a struggle… i guess the moral of it is dont rely on another problem causing item to solve a problem…ok to each his own but it just makes sense to me.

Atavan or Librium.
Generally to avoid the DTs a 7 day rapidly decreasing course of chlordiazepoxide ( formerly Librium) is used. It does not deal with any of the psychological addiction problems but reduces the risk of physical withdrawal symptoms.
DO NOT GO COLD TURKEY!
Chlordiazepoxide 10 – 50mg four times daily, but only for short term use
