So when you used drugs that worked for you you didn’t have to feel the reality of life. It created a sort of false sense of reality. Now that you have stopped using drugs (for what ever reason) your brain is in a state of readjustment. This process will take time. Its not only a physical with drawl but a mental process of allowing yourself to live like a normal human being again and experience normal human emotions.
Quiting drugs and alcohol is a very hard thing to do. Its something that most people cannot do on their own. A treatment center is the best option, along with joining a 12 step program and support group like AA or NA. But its going to be an up hill battle no matter what.

It can be from either one, I haven’t personally experienced anyone going through this but have read about it. They probably started off with one small amount of cocaine or alcohol, but as their body got used to it, they had to increase how much they took in to get the same feeling from it. So now their body is used to getting that drug at that dosage. If you have ever drank a lot of caffeinated pop for a while, and then all of a sudden stopped, you would get a really bad caffeine headache. Same thing applies to cocaine or alcohol abuse, but there are so many more effects. Some have hallucinations, others feel very cold, there is a range of things. Below are a few websites that I hope help. good luck!

You will have to have lots and lots and lots of patience. This is not even something anyone can tell you what will happen next. Everyone in recovery is different and the body has its own way of recovering.
The best thing you can do is just be there for them if you can handle it. Try not to say anything against what they do or say because they are not trying to be obnoxious or anything. Right now they just need a friend.

Well, you are a really good person to stick around and want to help your friend through an alcohol and cocaine addiction recovery. A lot of friends would not want to deal with that kind of added drama, stress, and emotional turmoil. Good for u!
First of all, If your friend is serious about dealing with alcoholism, going to AA meetings (alcohol anonymous) is one of the most important things she/he can do. Here are a few sites on dealing with loved ones with alcoholism:http://alcoholism.about.com/cs/withdrawa…http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/…http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/…
Next, cocaine is one of the hardest things (aside from maybe heroin and meth.) to free your body from. Yes, your friend might get mega sick (physically) from withdrawing. The worst, however, is the mental/psychological aspect of such. Her/his mind has, for the entire time they have been addicted to coke, has really truely believed that it NEEDS coke to sustain itself. During a withdraw the body and mind freak out because it is not getting the coke, therefore psychologically believes it is going to not be able to sustain itself without such. The effects are numerous, and anyone’s guess.http://www.drug-addiction-support.org/co…http://www.bookrags.com/research/cocaine…http://www.drugs.com/enc/cocaine-withdra…

they are gonna be on edge, and in a lot of pain. Kudos to them for being so strong. Basically their body is doing what it says..withdrawing. I really hope there’s someone on here to explain better than I can the process, but their body is purging out. As far as I know it’s like the flu but 10x worse. It should be better within the next few days, just give them support.

Give it a week. Right now they feel horrible, and they know that the only way for that feeling to go away is to snort coke or drink liquor.
Think of it as a horrible hangover, that lasts an entire week. Not fun!
