Does Depakote Or Zyprexa Have Withdrawl Side Effects?

Filed in Category Drug Withdarawl Symptoms

I’m 21 years old, I’m bipolar. I used to take depakote and zyprexa. I stopped taking them about a week ago. I have been taking them for years. I just came off of them all of a sudden and the doctor doesn’t know about it. I decided to come off of these meds because they made me hungry all the time. Eating alot makes people gain weight. I’m afraid of getting fat so I don’t wanna gain weight, in fact, I want to lose some more. Since I’ve come off of them I’ve been eating alot less and it is much easier to stick to my starvation diet (under 700 calories a day). I’m currently 5′8 and about 114 pounds. According to the height/weight charts, I’m underweight, which to me is BS because I still don’t think I look thin enough, so I wanna lose more. The problem is that recently I’ve been feeling sickly all the time, I always have a headache, I feel nausous all the time, and I have flu-like all the time. Do these drugs have withdrawl effects like these or is this the starvation? I’m not going back!

If you’ve taken them for years its dangerous to just stop besides the sideeffects you are experience you can have rebound symptoms like mania. Its very important to keep on your meds and if you want to stop or decrease have your doctor take you off slowly so you don’t have a sudden rapid shift in moods. Its okay to decide to change or decrease your meds but dont just stop. It also sounds like you have a touch of anorexia and body image problems and you are using this as an excuse to indulge in your restriction addiction.
You are playing with your health and body and I know it seems like a great idea but please consider the overall effects of what you are doing. Take care.

bet you crave starches don’t you? you need to go back on the meds and let your Dr. ween you off gradually. yes, they do cause severe headaches and you may even get fatter which I think would be good for your height and weight.

Your stupid for going off the medication cold turkey. Your seriously underweight and you need to go back and see your shrink. However the way you talk I think you just want sympathy from people and need to see someone about this because it’s just plain stupid to go off meds and then start starving yourself.

It sounds to me like you are on the brink of an eating disorder. DO NOT GO OFF YOUR MEDS, believe me! When you do that, you make your family and friends suffer. My mother has bipolar too, and when she stopped taking her meds, her episodes were hell for us to go through. Think about those around you and YOURSELF.
When you stop eating, you are going to feel nausous and have headaches. That is the starvation. You need to start eating 800-900 calories a day, go back on your meds, and just be happy with the way you are. When you stick to 900 a day, you are still going to lose weight, but you will not starve yourself.
When you starve yourself, your body actually HANGS ONTO fat in order to protect itself. Is this what you want? A fat stomach and face? That will happen to you if you continue to do this to yourself.

you probably don’t need any more pills, i think therapy is more appropriate, 5-8 and 114 is plenty slim and attractive. 700 is much too low, starving yourself will make your body hoard every possible calorie. try eating three light meals a day and doing an hour walk or half hour run, just for a week.

forgot what Depakote did to me
Zyprexa causes BAD hangovers, they last a day or so for me
its way worse and very different from the alcohol ones
